Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques, a single algorithm tapping technique which is a simplified form of the ancient Chinese system of acupuncture (only without needles), combined with many brilliant facets of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. (NLP)
“A single algorithm tapping technique” means that we use the same set of points for every issue no matter what the problem may be. EFT can be used very effectively with a broad range of coaching and counselling approaches and has become a major factor in many Energy Psychology systems. The amazing successes of EFT with a wide range of emotional and physical issues has created breakthrough understandings about the nature of healing and personal change.
Today due to the amount of clinical research it is recognised, even in Western medicine practices that our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases.
One of the reasons that I was attracted to EFT was the powerful results I saw myself and for my clients. These results showed up in the release of problems as well as in areas of performance enhancement.
Another very attractive factor about EFT is that it is simple and we can teach it easily to our clients. They use it themselves and it often becomes part of their lifestyle – as well as amplifying the results they achieve in their personal sessions. This is very empowering since most other techniques achieve results exclusively through visits to the practitioner, for instance, the acupuncturist doesn’t send you home with a bag of needles, and the chiropractor doesn’t give you adjustments to do at home.

Coaching with EFT
Have you ever wondered why so many people find it almost impossible to fully achieve their most heartfelt goals, dreams or ambitions; whether it’s within their career, relationships, sport, or other valued performance area?
Sometimes even when working with a highly skilled and experienced coach to assist them in reaching their potential, they will struggle, try harder, under perform and ultimately be disappointed. This tends to become an unconscious pattern resulting in them either giving up on their goal just before they achieve it, or they won’t even attempt to pursue their goal because of the negative consequences involved if they fail.
This pattern is a clear indication that an internal conflict exists, which successfully sabotages their success, each and every time – leading to feelings of disappointment, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, fear of failure and feeling stuck. Depending on the duration of the conflict pattern it can even manifest in physical or emotional illness. From the moment we are born our inner (unconscious) minds are like sponges that absorb information about how to behave, how to respond to others and how to relate to the world around us.
We learn or ‘inherit’ these life skills from our parents, guardians, teachers, preachers and others who are charged with our formative wellbeing. If you have ever heard yourself saying “I should do this…”, “I ought to do that…”, “I always have to…” or “I can’t do…” this is a good indication that you have a ‘hand me down’ belief in relation to the subject or situation. Depending on the duration of the conflict pattern it can even manifest in physical or emotional illness.
